Fourth stage of the Camino de Santiago de l’Ebre, from Tortosa to Xerta, with a flat route of 17.8 km that combines river landscape, historical heritage and wetlands. The route begins at Portal del Romeu de Tortosa, crossing the old town to Rambla Felip Pedrell and Pont Roig, an old railway bridge on the Val de Zafán line, currently recovered as a Greenway and integrated into the Ebro Natural Path GR-99.
Following the Greenway, the stage advances towards Roquetes and Aldover between fields, canals and banks of the Ebro River, where historical elements can be observed such as the Torre d’en Corder, a 13th-century watchtower that was part of the river’s defensive network, as well as the Illa d’Audí, a space of environmental interest within the Delta’s wetlands. Along the way, roads and passages adapted for the safety of pilgrims are crossed, maintaining contact with nature and river fauna.
The arrival in Xerta is made by following the Via Verda along the Canal promenade to the Plaça Major, where the church of the Assumpció stands out, protected as a property of local interest. This stage offers a balance between historical heritage, river landscape and the tranquility of the towns of Baix Ebre, allowing walkers to enjoy the cultural and natural wealth of the territory before continuing on the next day of the Camino de Sant Jaume de l'Ebre.

Roquetes is a quiet gateway to the Baix Ebre, set between the lower course of the river and the first ridges of the Ports Natural Park. Along the Greenway, the landscape blends farmland, nearby nature and silence—perfect for unhurried cycling or walking. It’s a place that invites you to pause and connect with the most authentic Ebro surroundings.
Xerta lies beside the Ebro, shaped by a long-standing and close relationship with the river. Along the Greenway stands the Assut of Xerta, a unique historic weir that is both a landscape landmark and part of the area’s heritage. Orchards, water and calm define a stretch that encourages slow cycling and following the river’s rhythm.
